This is not the easiest breed to train for traditional obedience. It is though exceptionally easy to train in tasks involving trailing. These dogs are very reserved with strangers and should be socialized from the earliest age as they can be shy or sometimes aggressive with strangers.

At home this is a very calm dog, but it is really a tireless trailer once on the track. It is tough, stubborn, and independent and as far as the family is concerned it is very gentle.
