This breed is one of the most ancient in Britain; it was originally bred for big game tracking and was popular in the 13-17th centuries. With the decline of hunting the breed lost its popularity and was used for trailing thieves and finding people. Bloodhound purebreed dogs were popular hunting dogs for breeders.
